Fitness for Children?
You’ve seen the stats on the news and they’re frightening! American children are fatter and more sedentary than ever and have huge health risks as a result. As school districts continue to cut physical education budgets, the role of the Fitness Professional becomes ever more important. Our exciting new 2-day program will teach you how to design and implement training programs for kids from birth through high school, including how to work with the obese child and the young athlete.

Workshop Listings

UNDERSTANDING CHILDREN & ADOLESCENTS
Saturday - 8:30 am - 10:30 am
To work with kids you’ve got to understand them! Explore the physical and psychological changes children go through and learn about the five stages of childhood maturity. Explore other kids issues including the role of the parents, how peer pressure works and psychological issues affecting children and adolescents including eating disorders, body image disorders, substance abuse issues and depression.

EXERCISE AND CHILDHOOD OBESITY
Saturday - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
The number of overweight and obese children in our country is reaching epidemic levels. The obese child is at risk for heart disease, diabetes and other physical ailments and often suffers from poor body image and low self-esteem. The obese child often learns to hate exercise, and has lifelong health risks as a result. Learn about the special needs of your young, obese clients and how to work with them for lifelong success.

TRAINING INFANTS, TODDLERS & PRESCHOOLERS
Saturday - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Start 'em young & keep them fit for life! This state of the art program will show you how to work with your youngest clients and their parents to develop motor skills, hand to eye coordination and balance. You’ll learn specific training modalities for your littlest clients and discover how to put the "FUN" into "FUNction."

TRAINING THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILD
Saturday - 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Grades K – 4 lay the foundation for a lifelong love of activity. You’ll start by learning fitness assessments that are appropriate for this age group, then delve into games and drills to improve strength, flexibility, coordination and rhythm as well as overall conditioning and cognitive drills for learning health behaviors and concepts. The kids will call it “playtime;” only you need know that they’re learning too!

EXERCISE & THE MIDDLER SCHOOLER
Sunday - 8:30 am - 10:30 am
Here’s the age when peer pressure becomes more intense, the influence of the parents can begin to diminish and hormones go into high gear. This program will show you how to use a variety of “toys” for programs with a high “cool” factor while teaching health behaviors and concepts that will carry over into adult life. You’ll also learn health assessments specific to this age group!

FITNESS FOR THE TEENAGER
Sunday - 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
As your teenage client begins to think of college, they go through profound physical and psychological changes, and dissatisfaction with their body can border on obsession. This fast-paced program will teach you how to discover what fitness goals the teenager has in mind. Then you’ll learn how to implement programs for those goals, be they athletic, functional or cosmetic.

RESISTANCE TRAINING FOR ADOLESCENTS
Sunday - 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Strength training for youthful clients has always been controversial, but new research is shedding more light on the subject. Learn the proper way to program children for strength development, based on their specific goals. You’ll learn tips for safe program design and explore how skillful manipulation of sets, reps and load can safely take your client to new fitness levels.

TRAINING THE YOUNG ATHLETE
Sunday - 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm
Are your clients hoping for an athletic scholarship one day? Not all children are natural athletes, and schools are cutting back on PE budgets, but with proper training kids can reach unexpected heights. This fascinating program will show you how to design and implement sports-specific programs for young athletes of BOTH genders. Age specific fitness tests included!

If you complete all 8 of our workshops you may register your credits for a complimentary “Certificate of Special Achievement” through AIFE, the American Institute of Fitness Educators.

This special credential rewards you for taking the time and initiative to complete this special program and is sure to increase your professional credibility and earning power.

To qualify for this special credential, all you need to do is register your credits with AIFE via e-mail after completion of the training course. You will then receive a handsome, personalized certificate suitable for framing to document your educational accomplishment.
